After I have analyzed the accumulated thoughts about my engine build I decided to go for a build that is more stock than I initially planned. I decided to drop the forged conrods, tomei poncams, adjustable gears and uprated valve springs. Basically I decided to drop a power gain of approximately 25 hp.
Why? I watched this video. Continue reading 4age engine build downgrading

So… I have been tinkering around the MR2 here and there. I managed to resolve the idle problem. The engine no longer cuts off after idling for a few minutes, but now it idles around 1200 rpm. This most likely means that I have a bad or dirty ISCV (idle speed control valve). Continue reading The die is cast – a full restoration is in order
I woke up the next morning after buying the MR2 with a smile. It was daylight and it was finally time take good look at it in peace.
I took it for a wash and took a bunch of pictures.
Here’s my MR2’s very first photo-shoot (and here’s its first baby tooth). Continue reading A new start for an old MR2

I planned out the trip to go buy the MR2 without telling anyone but a very good friend. The plan was for him to drive me there and I would come back in the MR2.
I called the MR2 owner a few times beforehand and arranged everything. The car was driveable. Hadn’t been started for a year, but he assured me it was driveable. It was all i needed. Continue reading How I bought the dream part 2
Armed with the basic info on the mr2 I decided to go check out the two MR2 mk1 on offer in my country. Continue reading How I bought the dream – part 1
The first car from this list in the previous post (see the list here) I checked out was a British racing green MX-5 NB. It had the 1.6 110 hp engine. I checked this car out before I had the mini, and when I was selling the Golf.
I didn’t want the 1.6 engine, but I went to take a look anyway. Just to get a general idea of what it’s like. The owner let me take it for a spin around the block on my own. Continue reading The champion is chosen
Ok……the dream car. As promised. Well I have to be honest, there never was a single shinning dream car invading all my automotive dreams. The cake is a lie.
However, there is a land and there is an era from which all the cars that I am genuinely fond of come from. That narrows it down a bit right?
You could never guess it from my track record of car ownership (very Teutonic I know) but the land is Japan and the era is the 80s and 90s. Classic Japanese sports cars are my poison and have been so since the first days of my gearhedness, and probably even earlier without me being aware of it. I was just too much of a chicken to buy one. Continue reading A time and a place
Before I finally break the suspense (oh who am I kidding, no one is reading this) and tell you more about my dream car, let me first bore you some more and tell you how and why I got into cars, and why I think anyone gets and keeps being into cars. Somehow I think that matters.
Cars are glorious. They are so much more than the sum of their parts. So much more than steel, aluminum and plastic (and leather for those better equipped).
They are companions that you get attached to. You relate to your car. From another point of view they are more like women. The better you treat them the happier they are and the better they repay you. Continue reading Why I love cars
